What Is Sofubi? A Beginner’s Guide to Japanese Soft Vinyl Figures
“Sofubi” is short for “soft vinyl,” and refers to figures made from a soft vinyl material.
Sofubi has been one of the most iconic parts of Japanese toy culture since the Showa era (1926–1989). Because they are lightweight and easy to handle, sofubi figures have been loved by people of all ages, from children to adults.
Their palm-sized design makes them easy to display, and even though the sculpting is often relatively simple, they capture the charm and character of the figures beautifully.
They are also reasonably priced, making sofubi an excellent choice for anyone looking to start their very first figure collection.

Sofubi figures come in two main types: boxed sofubi and the unboxed figures that are commonly sold in regular stores.
KAMEN RIDER ZEZTZ CATASTROM
Some sofubi figures, such as Kamen Rider Zeztz Catastrom, are sold in stores just as they are, without a special box.
On the other hand, there are also Kamen Rider Store exclusive sofubi figures, such as special versions with more detailed paint applications or clear-color versions.
(As of now, Showa-era Kamen Riders such as Kamen Rider No. 1 and Kamen Rider No. 2 are not yet available in these boxed versions.)
Sofubi figures normally sold at toy stores in Japan cost around 880–990 yen.
However, boxed sofubi figures that are exclusive to the Kamen Rider Store typically cost 2,000 yen or more.
